Portfolio Preparation, Ivy Tech Community Collage.
My proposal is to design a blower intake for a Dodge 360 cubic inch engine. The reason for this project is that there is not anybody currently producing a intake for this application for a roots style blower.
With this project I will have to learn how to use the sheet metal part of Solidworks which to this point I have not used before. There will also be problem solving for placement of the nose of the blower so the belt that drives the blower will line up with the crank shaft pulley. There will be other issues that will have to resolved such as the plenum sized correctly for the intake and also runner length. I will have to measure for proper fit for everything to line up on the intake. Things such as clearance for the distributor, plumbing for the water jackets.
What I intend to do is design this intake from scratch. The only way to get the dimensions is to physically measure everything from the intake gaskets to the motor its self. I will produce a solid model of the intake its self and the mechanical drawings for the parts to be machined.
The major task for getting started with this project will be to measure a set of intake gaskets for intake port and bolt hole locations. I will also have to measure the motor itself for locations of the water jackets. The placement of the blower is also criticial for belt alignment. It will roughly take about a couple of weeks to get all the information together to start this project.
The materials will consist of the intake gaskets, 360 dodge intake, and the long block of the motor itself. The tools I need to measure everything with I already have. It will be nesacerry to use the schools computer to complete my solid sheet metal model for this project.
The infromation for the formulas to figure the plenum size and runner lenght will borrowed from a book called Max-Performance Buick Engine by Jefferson Bryant.
